Health Ministry – Four Dead, 12 Hurt in Friday Blasts

Egypt’s Interior Ministry said that four people were killed and 12 were injured in three bombings that occurred in Cairo and South Sinai on Friday.

One police corporal was killed and three policemen were hurt when a homemade bomb exploded in a police traffic checkpoint at the Masr al-Gedida Court in Cairo, the Middle East News Agency reported the ministry as saying.

The Interior Ministry earlier said that a bomb planted at the checkpoint exploded, killing police corporal Abdallah Mohamed Abdallah and injuring three other policemen.

The Tor area in South Sinai witnessed a blast early this morning after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpoint. The suicide bomber and one soldier were killed while five others were injured in the attack.

The ministry said that the blast took place during a clash between the suicide bomber and security forces.

The ministry’s statement described the bomber as a terrorist element.

A second blast occurred about 30 kilometres away, on the road to Sharm al-Sheikh, killing one and injuring four.

Another suicide bomber targeted a bus transporting workers. The bomber was killed while four bus passengers were injured after the bus caught on fire.
