Health Minister Convenes Extra-Ordinary Meeting On HCV

Health Minister Adel Adawi held an extraordinary meeting Tuesday with members of the national committee of viral hepatitis (HCV).

The meeting was attended by the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Cairo.

Egypt is facing a catastrophe where Virus C is concerned, the health minister acknowledged during the meeting.

“We should not bury our heads in the sand,” Adawi said, stressing the need to act to resist the disease through non-traditional means.

The world’s highest HCV rates are in Egypt, Adawi said, pointing to a national preventive plan to face the spread of the disease.

Spending on a preventive plan reduces spending on treatment, he noted.
