FM Reviews Peace, Water Files With French Senator

Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi met on Sunday with visiting French Senate member Christiane Kammermann.

The French lawmaker welcomed Egypt’s steps to carry out the transitional road map, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aati said.

The completion of the Egyptian presidential polls would be yet another important step in fulfilling the road map after the constitution had been ratified, Kammermann said during the meeting.

Fahmi briefed her on the political scene in Egypt and responded to all her inquiries about foreign files, such as the water security issue, the spokesman said.

“Water security is part and parcel of national security and Egypt supports cooperating with all parties concerned so as not to harm the interests of any Nile Basin country”, the foreign minister said.

The meeting also took up the Middle East peace process and the need for Israel to halt settlement activities to boost peace efforts, the spokesman added.
