EU Mission to Follow Up Presidential Election

Head of the European Union (EU) team following up the Egyptian presidential elections Mario David said on Monday 1952014 that his team is still working in Egypt in a follow-up mission in accordance with an agreement with the Egyptian authorities.

During an international press conference, David asserted that 10 experts arrived in Cairo on April 18, 2014 and another group followed on April 30, 2014. They were not deployed as scheduled due to some delay in procedures, he said.

David thanked the Foreign Ministry for its quick action and efforts to solve the problem.

He declared that his mission will continue its work in Egypt with some changes in the timetable.

David noted that the EU is particularly interested in the legal procedures, electoral campaigning and respect for freedoms and rights. The mission is looking at how committed Egypt is to international criteria in terms of vote counting and complaints, he added.
