Egypt’s Stance On Ethiopian Dam Is Clear – Spokesman

Egypt’s stance towards Ethiopia Dam is clear as it supports serious negotiations to reach a solution to the existing problems, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Atti said.

At a press conference, he said Egypt does not oppose any country’s right for development as long as its interests are not harmed.

“If there is a seriousness to launch negotiations, let’s start right away because our stance at the technical and political levels is clear,” he said.

He declined to comment on statements of the two Egyptian presidential aspirants on the dam, saying the Foreign Ministry speaks as one of the State institutions.

As for facilities to the foreign missions that will follow up the presidential polls, he said those missions are free to go anywhere they want in Egypt, stressing that the ministry serves as link between these missions and Egyptian bodies concerned.

“The Egyptian government does not have anything to hide and that’s why it invited all organizations,” he said.

As for Carter Center’s absence from following up the elections, he said invitation was sent to all organizations, adding that casting doubts on the polls before they already take place is not objective.
