Egyptians in Turkey Start Vote in Presidential Polls

Egyptians in Turkey started on Thursday 1552014 voting in Egyptian presidential polls to choose Egypt’s new president. A low turnout was reported on the first voting day. Voters have to choose between Hamdeen Sabahy and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. “I expect a high voter turnout within the coming days,” the Acting Egyptian Ambassador in Ankara said. He added that the polling process is going on smoothly. Meanwhile, Egypt’s Acting Consul in Istanbul Shahira Assi said the voting started at 9 a.m. amid a low turnout by voters.

“There are only 300 eligible voters registered in the data base,” she said. Assi noted that some Muslim Brotherhood members staged rallies outside the consulate building. Turkish troops have been deployed to protect the diplomatic facility.
