Egyptian, Iranian Fms Discuss Deteriorating Situation in Gaza

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif during which they discussed the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip and the continuation of the Israeli military escalation.

Shoukry expounded to Zarif the Egyptian initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza to stem the blood of Palestinians and protect the lives of innocent people.

Talks also covered the points of the initiative which call for the opening of the border crossings and facilitating the movement of people and goods across the Gaza Strip and the drawing up of a specific mechanism for this purpose according to clear timelines.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Atti said Shoukry also posted Zarif on the intensive efforts exerted by Egypt to respond to the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people, especially receiving the wounded victims of Israeli raids to provide them with treatment in Egyptian hospitals in addition to offering humanitarian relief assistance to the people of Gaza.

Iran’s top diplomat expressed appreciation for the Egyptian political and humanitarian efforts to serve the interests of the Palestinian people.

Shoukry asked Iran to support the Egyptian initiative as the only way to protect the innocent Palestinian people, stop the bloodshed and bring an end to hostilities.
