Egypt Supports Security, Stability in S. Sudan

Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdy Sanad Luza took part Tuesday 2052014 in South Sudan pledging conference, which is being held in Oslo, under the auspices of Norway and the United Nations.

Egypt, South Sudan, and 41 states along with 44 organizations are taking part in the conference with the aim of collecting humanitarian aid needed for alleviating the serious humanitarian crisis in the African state.

During his speech at the conference, Luza mentioned the Egyptian humanitarian aid that was delivered to the South Sudanese people following the outbreak of the violence in the country in December 2013.

He stressed Egypt’s commitment to provide more aid and support to meet the growing needs of the people in the African state.

He also reiterated Egypt’s full support for the efforts of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) that aim to achieve security and stability in South Sudan.

The Egyptian diplomat held a meeting, on the sidelines of the conference, with the South Sudanese foreign minister who expressed his country’s deep appreciation to Egypt for standing by the South Sudanese people during hard times.

Foodstuff and other aid supplies are sharply decreasing in South Sudan since the outbreak of violence, endangering the lives of almost a million people there.
