Egypt Shifts Time Again On Thursday

Daylight saving time (DST) will be restored on Thursday July 31, announced the Egyptian cabinet.

The clock will shift one hour forward starting Thursday midnight, following the end of Eid al-Fitr, a religious holiday which marks the end of fasting in Ramadan, which is celebrated by the Muslim majority in Egypt.

DST was abolished three years earlier, following the January uprising, but the decision to restore it came in order to alleviate Egypt’s energy crisis, explained the statement.

The government said that the decision is linked to Egypt’s economic conditions, which led officials to force frequent power cuts in order to ease the load on electricity consumption.
