Egypt FM Slams Erdogan’s Remarks On Ceasefire Initiative

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Friday that Turkish Foreign Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan’s remarks on Egypt were totally unacceptable and should not have been made by the prime minister of a large country like Turkey.

“The remarks included unfamiliar phrases which deviated from courtesy and diplomatic norms and showed lack of understanding of what is going on in Egypt and the will of the Egyptian people,” Shoukry said during a press conference with his Italian counterpart Federica Mogherini following their talks on Friday.

Shoukry was answering a question on Erdogan’s remarks about his rejection of an Egyptian initiative to end violence in Gaza.

The Egyptian minister said that it would be more helpful if Erdogan sought to positively press on all parties to join the Egyptian proposal which aims at ending escalation and bloodletting of the Palestinians.
