Court Sentences 37 Pro-Brotherhood Students to 4 Years

An Egyptian court sentenced 37 pro-Muslim Brotherhood students to four years in prison on Sunday over charges of rioting and practicing violence.

The court also ordered that they be put under surveillance for four years and fined EGP 30,000 (4,258 US Dollar) each.

The defendants were accused of assembling without permit, blocking a road and vandalizing public property.

Students who support ousted President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood have been steadily staging demonstrations since his overthrow last year.

Egypt’s army ousted Mursi in July in response to mass demonstrations across his rule.
