Court Acquits Ex-Brotherhood Leader of Insulting Judiciary

A Cairo criminal court acquitted on Wednesday former supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mahdy Akef of allegations that he insulted Egypt’s judiciary.

A number of judges had filed a complaint against Akef after he described the judiciary to a Kuwaiti newspaper as corrupt.

Egypt’s interim government declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization towards the end of last year following protests against the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi.

Mursi was ousted in July following mass demonstrations against his rule.
