Army Chief Visits Poll Stations to Check Vote

Egypt’s defense minister Sedki Sobhi visited a number of polling stations on Monday to see that the electoral process is running smoothly.

Egyptians began voting for a new president early on Monday under heavy security.

Competing in the race are former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi.

Polls will close at 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Egypt’s army has deployed 180,000 conscripts to secure the polls.
