Adli Mansour Says Presidency At Same Distance From Both Candidates

Egypt’s interim President Adli Mansour has called on Egyptians to participate in the upcoming elections.

Local polls will open in Egypt on May 26 and 27 for the second presidential elections since the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.

Mansour said in a televised address to the nation on Sunday that, “Those who are reluctant to participate in political life may bring to power somebody who doesn’t attend to their interests.”

There are about 54 million eligible voters in Egypt.

The elections commission announced late last week that 318,000 Egyptians have voted abroad.

Most of the votes went to former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who is expected to win.

Competing against him is leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi who came third in the 2012 elections that brought the Muslim Brotherhood to power.
