Abdelkader Messahel Arrives in Cairo for Algerian-Egyptian-Italian Meeting

Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel arrived Saturday evening to Cairo to take part, on Sunday, in a three-party meeting bringing together Algerian, Egyptian and Italian officials about Libya.

The minister, who participated Friday in the sixth Foreign Ministers meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries, will take part in this important event that comes just after a third dialogue meeting of Libya’s party leaders and political activists in Algiers, early June, as part of the dialogue sponsored by the United Nations, and which wrapped up with the participants’ stressing the need to reach, as soon as possible, a final agreement ending Libya crisis.

Messahel’s participation in the three-party meeting in Cairo shows Algeria’s commitment to backing Libyan brothers in overcoming the current crisis.

It also shows its commitment to contributing positively to the diplomatic efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Libya, as the only way to preserve the country’s unity and sovereignty and help it restore peace and stability.

The Cairo meeting comes at a difficult time marked by an escalation of violence and terrorism in Libya, which requires coordination and consultation between the three countries.
